Nick Haddow
Bruny Island Cheese Co
Nick Haddow’s diverse career started in the Adelaide Hills where he became obsessed with cheesemaking while working as a chef. Cheese took him around the world before it landed him on the beautiful Bruny Island in southern Tasmania. Nick started Bruny Island Cheese Co in 2003, which has since gained a reputation for being one of Australia’s premium agri-food and tourism experiences and has picked up multiple awards including Telstra Australian Business of the Year and consecutive trophies at the World Cheese Awards in ’23 and ’24 for their raw milk cheeses. In the past decade, Nick has expanded the business by building a craft brewery on Bruny Island, a dairy farm in the Huon Valley and second cheesemaking facility dedicated to producing raw milk cheeses. He also has a side hustle wine business, Haddow + Dineen. His products are sold online and in-store around Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan.
Nick has a successful media career and was awarded a prestigious James Beard Medal in the US for his latest book, Milk Made. He is a Churchill Fellow, an alumnus of the Tasmania Leadership Program, a graduate of the Institute of Company Directors and is a current participant of the Australian Rural Leadership Program. Nick is the Chair of Brand Tasmania and serves on the boards of Wine Tasmania, Tennis Tasmania, the Churchill Fellowship Trust and the Tasmanian Premier’s Visitor Economy Advisory Committee.
